Background
In 1989, at a pub called the Slug and Lettuce in North London, Edwin Datschefski was sitting with his green design colleagues Yorick Benjamin and Paul Scott when he noticed an enviro-minded acquaintance at a nearby table. As it turned out, the friend was sitting with a few of his own eco-conscious mates, so they pulled some tables together. And so a movement was born.

The concept evolved into Green Drinks and now it’s global. In 2001, Datschefski created an official Web site, www.greendrinks.org, and it has since spread across the world. Now, Green Drinks is an international event held all over the world, with each city having an organiser who arranges meetings in restaurants and bars, connecting the green people together.

Green Drinks KL

In the past, Green Drinks KL has been held monthly on the last Tuesday of every month. These events are very simple and unstructured, there is no formality and at times, no agenda at all. Anything goes. The whole point is to have some good conversations in a casual and informal setting. It’s a great way to socialise, catch up with like-minded friends, meet new ones, and connect with others who are passionate or curious about the environment, climate and all things ‘green’. More often than not, we invite a speaker who can explore relevant issues and deliver practical ideas for making greener lifestyle choices. Suggestions for speakers are always welcomed from everyone.

The participants are anyone with an interest in local and international environmental and sustainability issues, at all ages, backgrounds and groups, non-profit organizations, academia, government, small business, big business, self-employed, volunteers, students, concerned citizens, curious passer-by, and anyone who wants to learn how to be more environmentally friendly.
